Susan’s goals as a District Trustee are to continue to deliver clean, safe water to rate payers, while also providing sanitary sewer service at an affordable price. In addition, to continue to be financially conservative with the District’s customer’s money while making sure services are safe, updated and staff is trained in the latest technology. Her ongoing goals as a Trustee are to provide updated recreational facilities and services that benefit valley residents.

Winter Averaging Period

Each winter the District performs a winter sewer usage evaluation. During this time each customer is billed sewer consumption charges based on 100% of their metered water consumption. This is because it is safe to assume that during these months customers are not irrigating yards, washing cars, running swamp coolers, etc. and therefore the water that is being used is going into the sewer system. After the evaluation, the billing system takes the average monthly consumption during this evaluation period to determine each individual customer’s sewer “max”, which is the maximum amount the customer would be billed in sewer consumption charges for the remainder of the year (April- December), regardless of how much water was used. If the monthly water consumption is less than the “max”, the sewer consumption billed would be equal to the water consumption. If at any time during the winter averaging period you experience a leak, drip your water to prevent your pipes from freezing, or irrigate the yard due to unseasonably warm weather, please complete a Winter Average Re- Evaluation Request Form. This will allow the District to take these instances into consideration when setting your sewer maximum. For more information, please call the District office at 775-673-2220.

2015 Veterans Appreciation Event

Almost 100 Veterans, their families and local residents enjoyed the 6th Annual Veterans Appreciation Breakfast at the Sun Valley Neighborhood Center this past November. State and local dignitaries highlighted the event by recognizing and honoring all Veterans and active military. A performance of the National Anthem by a member of the National Guard and a Boy Scout Color Guard opened the event that was hosted by master of ceremonies District Vice Chair Susan Severt. Everyone enjoyed a free and delicious pancake breakfast with all the fixings courtesy of Washoe County Senior Services.

Tariff Changes

On December 10, 2015 a Tariff Hearing was held. The Board of Trustees approved amendments to Tariff Rules

#1, 21, 22, 23 and 26. A change that will affect those customers who pay with credit, debit or electronic check on the website, over the phone or in the office is that the service fee is being increased to $2.71. This fee will be collected at the time of payment. For more information on the Tariff Hearing, please visit www.svgid.com.

Winter Time

Fortunately the Truckee Meadows has experienced considerable moisture due to several storms in 2015. Even though we are still in a drought situation, the storms made an impact. Please be aware of freezing temperatures and the importance of protecting your pipes from freezing. Information on how to protect your pipes from freezing can be found on the District website at www. svgid.com. The District encourages customers to continue conserving water inside the home and outside as we approach spring.

Staff Promotions

District employee Jon Combs has been promoted to Public Works Director, replacing Mike Ariztia who has relocated out of state. Jon has been employed by the District since 1997 and has successfully moved through the ranks holding various positions and is now responsible for all field operations, District facilities, parks and more. District employee Chris Melton was promoted to Field Supervisor. Chris worked as Service Tech III prior to his promotion and has been with the District since November 2004.
