SUMMER RECREATING
Enjoy a summer morning, afternoon or evening at one of the District’s community parks. Highland Ranch Park is located on Highland Ranch Parkway. This 30 acre park offers a covered picnic area, playground, basketball court, volleyball court, horseshoe pit, and dirt trails for walking enthusiasts. Sun Mesa Park, located on Sun Mesa Drive, is a quaint little 2.8 acre park that offers a covered picnic area, playground and walking path.

POOL PARTY
You’re invited to attend the end of season Pool Party Saturday, August 10th. There will be fun games and prizes throughout the day (general admission rates apply). The pool will close for the season at 5:00pm on Sunday, August 11th in conjunction with the Washoe County School District Balanced Calendar. Be sure to enjoy the remaining weeks of the summer at the pool during normal pool hours Tuesday through Sunday 12:00pm to 5:00pm.
SUN VALLEY CAR SHOW
You’re invited to attend the 2nd Annual Family Classic Car Show Saturday, August 24th at the Sun Valley Community Park. This event is free to car lovers and the general public. PARKS – SMOKE & VAPE FREE
District Board of Trustees adopted a Smoke Free/Vape Free Policy in all District parks in coordination with Washoe County, City of Reno and City of Sparks. This policy was driven by more health concerns about second-hand smoke as well as cigarette butts posing a significant and difficult cleanup challenge. Signs will be installed this summer around all the parks.
FIRE PREPAREDNESS
During wildfire season, it is important to be mindful of being “Lean, Clean, and Green.” Clearing an area of at least 30 feet immediately surrounding your home is critical. This area requires the greatest reduction in flammable vegetation, along with stored items, trash, and other debris. The Truckee Meadows Fire Protection District is always available to help answer any questions, or perform defensible space assessments with you on your property. ABANDONED VEHICLES
Abandoned vehicles are a growing problem within the Washoe County community and is currently known as a nuisance and an epidemic problem. The District encourages the residents of Sun Valley to report abandoned vehicles as soon as possible by contacting Washoe County Sheriff’s Office at 775-328-3001 (option 7), your name will remain anonymous.
APPLIANCE/ELECTRONIC RECYCLING EVENT
The District partnered with Lifecycle Solutions and SIMS Metal Management this April to provide a recycling day for District Customers. This event was very successful with the collection of 137 televisions, 24 monitors and 7.3 tons of metal collected from recycled appliances.
CAPITAL IMPROVEMENT PROJECT UPDATE
The District awarded Resource Development Company with the bid for the construction of a new Pump Station and rehab of the Juniper Terrace Water Tank, as identified in the District’s Water Master Plan Capital Improvement Outlay. These two projects are scheduled for completion in June of 2019. It is important to note that all Capital Improvement Projects are paid for by the rate payers. And in addition, the District Trustees act fiscally responsible when approving all Capital Improvement Projects for Sun Valley.
WATER QUALITY REPORT
The District is proud that our drinking water continues to meet all state and federal drinking water quality standards as it has for more than 50 years. We know the quality of your drinking water is important to you and we take drinking water regulations very seriously. ANNUAL PHOTO CONTEST
The District is accepting photo submittals for this year’s photo contest. Photo contest is open to all District customers and photos must be photographed within Sun Valley. Visit the District’s website for a complete set of contest rules. Cash prizes will be given for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place and photos will be displayed in the District office. Submittal deadline is September 30, 2019 you can submit your photo on the District’s website.
COMMUNITY SERVICE AWARD
The Sun Valley community is encouraged to nominate local people and/or businesses that go above and beyond to improve the quality of life for the Sun Valley community for the Community Service Award. The annual award winners will be recognized and presented with a plaque by the District Trustees. Please submit your nominations to jmerritt@svgid.com. Submittal deadline is September 30, 2019.
