It is that time of year where Sun Valley residents can get out and enjoy the valley’s parks and recreation. Sun Valley parks offer baseball and T-Ball, football, skateboarding, a BMX track, playgrounds, picnic areas and more. The over 26 acre Sun Valley Community Park offers a Neighborhood Center with a Senior program, Zumba, Martial Arts, and Family Resource Center. The Robert & Norma Fink Sun Valley Pool Complex is enjoyed by all throughout the summer. Beginning June 10th we Dive Into Summer with the grand opening of the pool and extended hours that day, followed by a barbecue and the Disney feature film Inside Out, starting at dusk. A second movie in the park is scheduled for July 15th. For information on pool schedules, pool activities and swim lessons please visit the District website at www.svgid.com.

Trustee Joseph Bartstow
District Trustee Joseph Barstow has been involved in the Sun Valley community for the past 23 years, other than attending the Nazarene Bible College in Colorado Springs, with his wife Angela to prepare for their ministry and become pastors of the H.O.P.E. Church of the Nazarene in Sun Valley. In 1996, Trustee Barstow became Senior Pastor of the church, and has continued as pastor for the past 20 years. The church also operates the Food Pantry of Sun Valley and through that has been able to provide food, clothing, gifts and other items that have helped thousands of local families that have needed assistance.
“I love that Sun Valley parks are so popular and that families and friends are enjoying all that they have to offer.” He commented recently.
He mentions the Sun Valley pool, barbeques and various games in the parks. “If you haven’t experienced our paint ball course or our disk golf course you are in for a treat.” Beyond the recreation Trustee Barstow says he enjoys serving the citizens of Sun Valley in both capacities and as Trustee he works side by side with the community to bring forth the best of what the valley has to offer to all. Born in Chico, California, raised in Carson City and longtime resident of Sun Valley, he and his wife Angela have raised three children and are enjoying their young grandson – and hoping for more.

Nevada Senator Debbie Smith
It was with great sorrow to hear the passing of State Senator Debbie Smith. She was always a supporter and champion of Sun Valley, attending many events and giving a voice for us at the Nevada Legislature. She will be missed not only as a highly respected legislator but as a caring, compassionate woman and stellar citizen of the state of Nevada.
The Passing of Barry Bouchard
The District was very sad to hear of the passing of local Barry Bouchard. Editor of Nevada Trends, an online publication of local events and people in the news, Barry was a passionate citizen activist and over the years served on several Washoe County committees. He will be missed.
